U9 2014

CHCC U9s qualify for 2014 Kent Cricket Board Super 8 finals

On two Sundays in July, CHCC U9s took part in an afternoon of matches at Horsmonden CC against local Kent teams.  The boys were successful in 5 of the 7 matches played, losing both times to Tunbridge Wells A (not sure why we had to play the same side twice). The most notable wins were against local rivals Horsmonden and a strong Tunbridge Wells B, where Will Howgill took two wickets in the final over, a feat he was to get into the habit of.

Sadly, the boys were not at their best on finals day, which was held at Dartford CC in September.  After losing to a strong Blackheath team, they contrived to tie to Greenwich having been in a winning position.  The tie meant that CHCC and Greenwich were level after the first round, which resulted in the two sides playing each other again in the second round of matches. This time Greenwich came out on top; however the boys ended the day on a high with a comfortable win over Bickley Park.  In the end CHCC finished 17th out of 24 finalists which was not a bad effort.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable season which ends with Will Howgill, Callum Davis, Hector Anderson, Claude Fletcher and Nicholas Bernhardsen moving on to hardball and we wish them well!  Looking ahead there is a very promising set of U7s coming up and we will be striving to put two sides in this prestigious competition in 2015.

CHCC win 2014 U9 Tun Wells festival!

On Sunday 7 September, 10 CHCC boys took part in a tournament where winning 3 of the 5 matches would have been considered a success. However, after 2 routine wins against Bells Yew Green and Tun Wells C, the boys started believing.

In the next 2 matches both Sevenoaks Vine and Withyham found themselves with more runs with an over to go.  In both cases, firstly Angus Hall and then William Howgill took a wicket in the final over to win the match (at this level a team loses 5 runs for a wicket).

Will' s wicket was off the penultimate ball and led to wild celebrations which were heard in The Pantiles. As a result, CHCC had incredibly qualified for the final and were not going to lose.  This was helped by the other finalist, and reigning champions, Leeds & Broomfield being one player short and CHCC won comfortably.

All the boys played brilliantly and in addition to Will and Angus, Callum Davis, Hector Anderson, Claude Fletcher, Harry Leach, Robert Vizard, Henry Parton, Ben Anderson and Samuel Bromley all played major roles.
